WordPress website tools

PLATFORM :: WORDPRESS – this website, along with around 75 million other sites are powered by WordPress. It’s the gold standard when it comes to building a biz website, plus it’s free and open source (which means you OWN your website and content). If you were to build your website using Squarespace or Wix, you’re actually building your website on “rented land”, because those are privately owned companies. Since WordPress is super powerful, flexible and robust, you can start off with a simple site, but be able to build it out into the most epic empire-building site around!

HOSTING :: FLYWHEEL – when it comes to website hosting, you get what you pay for. The only company that I use and trust with my sites, and recommend to my clients is Flywheel. They are perfect for DIY’ers because they handle all the nitty-gritty tech stuff for you. They offer top-notch security, free SSL certificates and make it easy for you to restore your website (in case you accidently break it), so you don’t need to hire a web developer to fix it for you. When you purchase your website hosting with Flywheel, they will install WordPress on your website for you.

DOMAIN :: NAMECHEAP – this is my go-to website for purchasing domain names. Their website is super user-friendly, great support and they also offer free WHOIS “privacy protection” for the first year and a few bucks after that. Pro tip: Always make sure you set up WHOIS “privacy protection” on your domain to keep your contact info, such as your name, address, phone number and email address private, otherwise, spammers will contact you!

WORDPRESS THEME :: DIVI BY ELEGANT THEMES – this website, along with all my client sites are built using the Divi theme. The drag and drop visual builder, makes it easy for DIY’ers to create gorgeous websites (whatever layouts you can imagine!) without knowing any code. This theme basically allows you to build websites as if you were using Wix or Squarespace, but with the power of WordPress. It’s a total game-changer!

biz + organizational tools

BUSINESS EMAIL :: G SUITE – if you want to be taken seriously in business, you need a professional business email such as yourname@yourwebsite.com. I use and recommend gmail for business. It’s only $5/month and you can feel confident in knowing that your email is being taken care of the best email provider around. Get 20% your first year using this code: C436WCUFRPNWCC3

CLOUD STORAGE :: GOOGLE DRIVE – I use this to store files, documents, photos and create spreadsheets for my biz. You get 30G of storage with your G Suite account (when you sign up for gmail for business). It’s synced across all my devices which is awesome. I used to use Dropbox, but have since ditched it for Google Drive and now save over $100/year.

CREATING DOCUMENTS :: EVERNOTE and GOOGLE DOCS – I use both these programs to write up my website copy, random thoughts, keep swipe files etc. I’ve been using Google Docs a lot more lately because of their comment and collaboration features.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT :: ASANA – I use Asana’s free version to organize and keep track of all of my business and client projects. If you’re an organization freak, you’ll totally dig this software.

email marketing Tools

EMAIL MARKETING :: MAILCHIMP – this is the email marketing company I use to send out my blog posts, lead magnets, create automated sales funnels and email my members. Their straight-forward dashboard is easy to use (perfect for non-techies), they offer FREE AUTOMATION for accounts up to 2000 subscribers and their prices are totally affordable as your biz scales. When combined with the Thrive Leads email opt-in plugin, you can send multiple lead magnets with only one list and create some pretty advanced sales funnels (most people don’t realize this).

LANDING PAGES :: DIVI THEME – I use the Divi theme for my website’s WordPress theme, but it also allows me to create custom landing/squeeze pages, sales pages and webinar pages quickly and easily with the drag and drop builder. When you combine the Thrive Leads plugin with the Divi theme and Mailchimp, it takes away your need for third party software such as leadpages, saving you around $50/month!

EMAIL OPT-IN PLUGIN :: THRIVE LEADS – This is my hands-down favourite email opt-in plugin I have used. It allows you to create tons of different types of opt-ins on your website, plus it has amazing analytics and split testing capabilities built-in. When you combine this plugin with Mailchimp, you can create multiple email opt-ins with only one list! Their drag and drop builder makes creating beautiful opt-ins easy too. This is a must-have WordPress plugin if you’re doing any sort of email marketing.

OPT-IN STORAGE :: AMAZON WEB SERVICES (S3) – I use AWS for storing all my website files such as PDFs for my opt-ins and videos for my online courses. It’s secure, super affordable (free for the first year) and scalable (perfect for any size business).

Sell stuff online (digital products + courses)

PAYMENT PROCESSORS :: STRIPE or PAYPAL – these two service providers allow you to accept payments securely online. I use Stripe to take credit card payments for my online courses/digital products, as well as invoice clients and I mainly use Paypal for affiliate payments.

SELL PRODUCTS :: WOOCOMMERCE – this is an ecommerce plugin that allows you to create an online shop, so you can sell digital and physical products directly on your site. It’s an awesome free plugin built by a very reputable company. If you’re planning to sell products on your WordPress website, this is the plugin that I recommend.

THE NOT SO FINE PRINT

I’m all about honesty and transparency in biz (and in life), so to make sure we’re on the same page, some of the links on this page are affiliate links, because that’s how smart boss babes roll! I only recommend products or services that I use and love in my own biz, so if you choose to purchase a product through one of my links (which would be awesome btw!), I may recieve a small commission. There is no extra cost to you, it’s paid out by the company themselves. Thanks!
